The Department of Overseas Labour under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs have warned about scams targeting people who want to work in technical occupations in the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Department of Overseas Labourunder the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs have warned aboutscams targeting people who want to work in technical occupations in theRepublic of Korea (RoK).

According to the department, it was informed about advertisementson training classes and recruitment for working in the RoK with an E7 visa byindividuals and organisations that are not licensed to send workers to workabroad.

From April 2022, the Korean Government has expanded the policy ofaccepting foreign workers to work in technical occupations known as E7 visaholders, including shipbuilding workers, welders, painters and electricians.

Accordingly, to work in the shipbuilding industry, foreign workersneed to meet the conditions and standards according to the new regulations inKorea.

The country abolished the quota system for recruiting foreignE7-visa workers for shipbuilding welders and painters. The abolition of thequota will help enterprises to recruit more foreign workers to meet the needsof each enterprise.

Besides, the RoK also reduced the working experience conditions.Labourers who have graduated from university or higher with a major inrecruitment are exempt from work experience requirements. Those graduating fromhigh school or college or higher must have at least two years of experience inthe recruitment industry instead of five years.

The Department of Overseas Labour highly recommends people whowant to work in the RoK with an E7-visa directly contact enterprises that canlawfully send workers to work abroad to receive proper consultation andinstruction.

Since the Korean Government changed rules on the E7 visa in Aprilthis year, the country expected to offer job opportunities for 4,428 skilledforeign shipyard workers at 335 small businesses partnering with seven localshipbuilding and marine companies.

Those eligible are welders, painters, electrical engineers andplant engineers.

In previous years, only up to 600 welders and 300 painters wereallowed to work in the RoK each year. But the number of E-7 visa holders in theindustry will be limited to 4,428, a 205 ceiling to protect the job security oftheir 22,142 local peers.

Overseas labourers working in the RoK currently have an incomeranging from 1,400-1,800 USD per month. They mainly work as a crew ofnear-shore and offshore fishing vessels, people with technical expertise, andseasonal agriculture and fisheries workers who work in the RoK under thecooperation mechanism between localities of the two countries.

Vietnam has more than 600,000 workers working in 50 countries andterritories, sending home nearly 4 billion USD through official channels eachyear.

Japan, the RoK, and Taiwan are still significant marketsattracting over 90% of Vietnamese workers working abroad. It is reported thatabout 250,000 Vietnamese workers are working in Japan, 230,000 in Taiwan and40,000 in the RoK./.
